Friday, February 11th at 8:00pm, Peterson-Kermani Hall
Keith Kirchoff, pianist and composer, will perform an electro-acoustic program Friday, 11 February 2011, at 8pm in the Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall. Seven very different pieces will be presented—four have been especially commissioned for Kirchoff’s current season.
Kirchoff won the 2005 John Cage Award and the 2006 Steinway Society competition. In 2005 he gave both the Boston premiere of Charles Ives’s Emerson Concerto and the world premiere of Matthew McConnell’sConcerto for Toy Piano. He has recordings on the Bridge, Zerx, SEAMUS, New World Records, and Thinking OutLOUD Records labels.
The music on the February program will demonstrate several different aspects of electro-acoustic performance: some are highly interactive, while others simply play along with a pre-recorded “tape.” One piece is a duet for piano and Nintendo Wii.
The recital is designed for all listeners and will be presented in a casual lecture/recital format.
