Family Weekend ‘09 is October 2-4; the NCAT will have an Open House on Saturday, October 3rd from 11:00am – 2:00pm.
Drop by if you like! Current and former students can show their families the projects that they are working on (or have completed), and we’ll have some things to show, as well.

In this workshop we’ll go over the basics of working with Adobe Illustrator to create documents for print or screen. We’ll start with vector graphics concepts and move to hands-on time with Illustrator’s basic tools. Open to faculty, staff, and students. No prior experience needed.

We’re pleased to be bringing back the Digital Sandbox series of workshops this semester. Each one is a short, informal workshop that combines casual training with hands-on experimentation focused on one specific technology. No prior experience is usually needed.
One thing we’re doing differently this year: the Digital Sandbox is open to faculty, staff, and students. No need to RSVP; just show up if you see something interesting on the schedule.
These are the topics we’ll be covering in the near future:
- NCAT Open House: what can I do in the NCAT? (August 28, 3-4:30pm)
- Getting started with Adobe Illustrator CS4 (September 11, 3-5pm)
- Getting started with Adobe InDesign CS4 (September 25, 3-5pm)
- iMovie ‘09: it’s not your grandfather’s iMovie (October 9, 3-5pm)
- Easy film scoring with GarageBand (October 30, 3-5pm)
- Intro to Logic Express (November 13, 3-5pm)
Watch for more dates and times to be announced soon.
The NCAT will open for classes on Wednesday, August 26th. The Lab (NC 003) will also be open for general use in the evenings during open hours.
Anyone with a valid SLU ID card can use the lab during open hours; you don’t have to be enrolled in a class. However, these are the ONLY times that the NCAT is open for general use, so please plan accordingly.
If you have a class in the NCAT this semester, the doors will automatically unlock at your class time.
Please note that the NCAT does not provide headphones for class sessions; students are responsible for bringing their own headphones to class when needed.
Best wishes for a great fall semester!
